Week 1

So this is what I'll probably do at the end of each week. I'll just write one blog about all the boring stuff of my week like what happened with my classes and scheduling and clubs and stuff, because honestly there's not much to inform you guys on.

I started classes this week, so of course I went to them. I basically have 3 hours of each class each week so its about 15 hours of class a week. Which isn't bad. What the majority of them are is 2 hours of lecture and 1 hour of tutorial, which is like the classes at NCC. The tutorials split the students into smaller class sizes in order to discuss the material better but they don't start until week 3.

These are the classes I am taking:

LA4013 Media Law
JM4021 Journalistic Writing 1 (well i hope so... emailed the teacher because she didn't show up to class on Tuesday! But this class may start during week 3 since its a lab. Fingers crossed because I really need this class!)
LI4211 Linguistics
CU4127 Cultural Studies 5. Comparative Literature: Entangled Histories
EH4017 Contemporary African Literature in English

So Media Law is interesting, but I don't understand a lot of the terminology yet. lol Only problem is I start to zone out because the lecturer is a little boring, but its only an hour long lecture (twice a week) so its much easier to pay attention in the class.
I have no idea how Journalism is going to be since I haven't had the class reall...
Linguistics was probably the class I was looking forward to the least since it all about learning sounds of language and structure and that kind of stuff, but the teacher seems really cool and nice. She's pretty energetic without being over the top so I actually want to listen to her.
Both my literature classes seem interesting and it seems like the topics we're going to talk about are going to be interesting but the teachers are really boring. They just drone on and on and on and its really hard to listen to them. But in my Entangled Histories class we're going to be watching quite a few movies so thats ok with me!

This is what my schedule will look like:

Monday:
Tutorial (TUT) for LA4013 9:00-10:00am
(beginning week 4)

Tuesday:
LA4013 10:00-11:00am
JM4021 12:00-2:00pm
TUT JM4021 2:00-3:00pm

Wednesday:
TUT CU4127 11:00-12:00
(beginning week 4)
TUT LI4211 3:00-4:00 pm
(beginning week 3)

Thursday:
CU4127 10:00-12:00
LA4013 4:00-5:00

Friday:
EH4017 9:00-12:00
LI4211 2:00-4:00

So it's not too bad of a schedule. I have a lot more free time here in between than I do at NCC. Then again I do a lot more activities at NCC and I work on top of that. But I'm going to enjoy it while I can! lol

I also don't have too bad of a workload. It's probably about the same as NCC, but its different in the sense that here I have a lot less assignments but they are worth a lot more than the assignments at NCC.

Workload:
LA4013
Research paper 1,500 words worth 30% of my grade
Final exam worth 70% of my grade

JM4021
Still unknown but I have a feeling it will have the heaviest workload of all

CU4127
Essay between 1,500- 2000 words worth 60% of my grade
Presentation of one of our readings worth 20% of my grade
A concise summary of the Presentation worth 20% of my grade

LI4211
Phonetics Project worth 40% of my grade
Final exam worth 50% of my grade
The other 10% is based of my attencende at tutorials.

EH4017
Group presentation of once of our readings worth 25% of my grade
Midterm paper worth 25% of my grade
Final paper worth 35% of my grade
The last 15% percent is one again attendance.

So it's a lot of work, but it's not horrible. Certainly manageable. Of course I didn't include all my daily homework of readings but it's nothing I can't handle! Hopefully... haha

Let's see other information in general:
I get along with 2 of my roommates really well. 2 of them I never see, and the other one is nice, but gets on my nerves a lot, because this roommate is not very independent, but I don't want to go into too much detail because this is the internet and this could be found and I don't want to say anything really mean.

Ireland become an independent country in 1923. Until 1923 Great Britain controlled them.

I went on an hour tour of the city of Limerick but they made it sounds as if we were learning where things were at so I didn't bring my camera or anything... but it was a sight seeing tour. Darn!

To do one load of laundry here is 6 euros (to both wash and dry one load) which is about $8.00. That's a little ridiculous so I'll probably be wearing clothes once or twice before I wash them....

I joined the archery club. I start training on Monday. Well they call it training I just call it learning. lol

Well that's all I can think of for now! Hope you enjoyed the boring part of my life :p
